Business Think worked with us to move from a Magento website to a Shopify store. As well as managing the transition Elliot also worked with us as a team to make sure we were confident using the new platform, visiting the workshop several times during the process including for going live. He was able to get to the bottom of the more tricky elements that required a more bespoke solution such as moving the blog as well as ensuring the integration with our existing accounting and inventory systems. It was certainly not something we could of done on our own!
Having the new Shopify website has made a huge difference to the business, especially during lockdown when the bulk of our business moved to online. The platform is easy to use, we can create new products really easily and are even able to sell places for and host our online courses there. We have been able to easily run promotions, gather reviews and add gift messages to orders – all of which has kept our customers closer and more engaged.
Elliot was great to work with, explained things very clearly with a refreshing absence of jargon and made a daunting task enjoyable!

The project brief was to migrate an existing Magento e-commerce store onto the Shopify platform.
The challenges on this project were numerous. The Magento software being used was an older version and the data export function did not work. Their blog was hosted separately on a WordPress site, meaning we had to combine content created on two different technologies. In addition, the website had to be synchronised with a CRM and accounting software package, in a way that retained historical data and ensured the new Shopify data was compatible. Search engine traffic is also an important source of sales for the business and Google ranking had to be protected.
Plus, the brief included the creation of a separate password protected wholesale version of the new website, which effectively doubled all of the technical challenges on this project.
We held numerous meetings to plan for this project in Poppy’s Cornwall premises, which is a treasure trove of embroidery and fabric. Those early meetings scoping out the schedule of work together, understanding first-hand how her existing site had been built, were essential to eliminate surprises during the build process. The time frame for completing this project was tight and fixed, as the site needed to be launched one week before an important exhibition in New York. Working closely with the team at Poppy Treffry, the deadline was met successfully. The blog and e-commerce site were migrated into a single website solution, improving ranking and simplifying the administration for her team.
I enjoy working with Poppy and her team as they clearly love what they do and the products they create. I was made to feel part of the Poppy Treffry team during this project and it was extremely rewarding to see the site deliver the project goals.
Thank you Poppy Treffry for asking Business Think to complete this project.
